21 May 5 Reasons Your IT Manager Shouldn’t Worry About an Outside MSP
Before companies bring in an MSP to deal with various IT needs, they often consider many factors. These include cost, benefit to productivity, and impact on organizational efficiency. What’s rarely looked at is how the current IT manager feels about the situation. An IT manager may experience a combination of fear, dread, and panic. They consider bringing in an outside MSP as a sign that they’re about to be replaced. Fortunately, this is not the case. Here are five reasons why your IT manager should celebrate, not dread, a new MSP.
1. Companies Will Always Need Coordination
No matter how good an outside MSP is, their efforts still need to be coordinated with those in your organization. Since CEOs and VPs have more important things to do than micromanage new technology deployments or backup schedules, that task is going to go to someone. Who better to take it over than the current IT manager? If anything, an external MSP actually increases the need for IT managers, not the other way around.
2. MSPs Free up Time for More High-Level Pursuits
If an external company is handling the day-to-day operations of an organization’s network, then the IT manager has more time to focus on the big-picture stuff. Bringing in an external MSP lets IT managers outsource the drudgery, and instead concentrate on strategic technology needs — in other words, the fun stuff.
3. MSPs Free up Money for Better Technology
IT departments rarely get separate budgets for technology and maintenance. Instead, the maintenance comes first, and technology has to make do with whatever is left over. MSPs can drastically reduce the cost of maintenance and repairs, which leaves a lot more money in the budget for new technology. If there’s one thing IT managers love, it’s the latest and greatest tech toys.
4. There’s Less Mess to Clean Up
MSPs are far less prone to make the kinds of mistakes that lead to, for example, a daylong network outage. Because of their large talent pools and the fact that they are under SLAs, they are less likely to have a big IT snafu, and more likely to get it resolved quickly. That means fewer problems for your IT manager to have to fix. Not to mention, less angry coworkers will be walking into their office to complain about missing networks and unresponsive printers.
5. MSPs Make IT Managers Look Like Superheroes
Compared to traditional IT departments, MSPs generally cost less, have fewer problems, fix problems faster, and provide a better business environment. What IT manager wouldn’t want to walk into a meeting with the CEO and take credit for all these improvements?
